"One Night in Bangkok" from White Queen's favorite musical Chess (the London version, of course).
HARDWARE & SOFTWARE:
The BBS resides on a 20+ node
network consisting of DOS, Novell, Windows 95, Windows NT, Windows 2000, Linux, and
Solaris workstations. The Novell NetWare 4.11 file server is a Pentium 233
with 128mb RAM equipped with a 30 gigabyte drive, and a Tripp-Lite OmniPro 1050 UPS.
We also have two CD servers with NEC 7 CDROM changers and a Pioneer 18 disc changer.
The network topology is a mix of 100-BASE-T, 10-BASE-T, and 10-BASE-2 coaxial
ethernet (cheapernet) and allows us to share resources with C Delight BBS. Modified
files are backed up daily using a Colorado PowerDAT 6000 4 gigabyte tape drive. The
dial-up BBS node runs from the server on a Pentium 100 workstation The Telnet/Web
server is a Pentium II-400 with 128mb RAM running Windows NT 4.0 Server and Ataman Software's Remote Logon Daemon. Our
Internet connection is a 128K dedicated ISDN line to Esper
Systems using a 3Com OfficeConnect 510 Router.
The BBS software is WWIV version 4.30, licensed for 8
nodes.

How
to Access Bangkok Nights BBS via Dial-Up
All you need to access Bangkok Nights is a computer, a modem, and
some sort of terminal software (preferably for DOS, not Windows). Most modems come with a
communications package, or you can purchase terminal software or a remote-access package
such as PCAnywhere. Once you get online, you can download several very good shareware
terminal programs. One I recommend highly for new users is Qmodem.
You'll have to check the docs for your terminal program, but most have a "dialing
directory" in which you put the phone number and other information for calling a BBS.
How to Access Bangkok Nights BBS via Telnet
To log into Bangkok Nights via Telnet, you
can use the TELNET.EXE that comes with Windows (be sure it is set to ANSI terminal type),
but it won't be in color if you have Windows 95 or NT. For a better Telnet
program with color graphics, take a look at the selection on TUCOWS or your favorite shareware site.
Use the following address to telnet to the BBS: telnet://bbs.ogle.org. You will need to hit
your [spacebar] key to bring up the login prompt.
Once connected, the BBS will prompt
you for your handle or user number and a password. If you are new to the BBS, simply type
"NEW" to fill out the new user questionnaire. You'll not have full access to the
system until you are validated. Normally, I validate new users within a day or two so if
you don't get access after that time, I recommend you send me another message.
